Here at Roseville Dental Practice, we are proud to offer dental sedation to our patients to make their visits more comfortable.
The most common type of anaesthesia used is a local anaesthesia. This prevents pain in a specific part of a patient’s mouth. This works by blocking the nerves to that area. We often use a topical anesthesia before using local anesthesia. This helps to numb the area before we inject the local anaesthesia. This is most often used for cavities.
There are some patients who require more anxiety relief so we also offer sedatives. These are most effective if they are given before the procedure but they can be given during it. There are different types of sedatives. Some are inhaled as a gas though there are some in pill form. Some sedatives need to be given intravenously.
The benefits of sedation are that it allows you to have dental treatment that you previously were too scared to have – with a good chance you won’t remember what happened! Sedation is carried out to the highest standards at Roseville with your care and welfare a priority for all our staff.
There are times when a patient needs more anaesthesia for a procedure, whether they are anxious or the procedure is painful. General anaesthesia can be used in those cases where a loss of consciousness is required – this is not possible in a dental practice and requires referral to a hospital.
Whatever you need from us, feel free to discuss your case with your dentist. We want you to have an enjoyable visit and will do everything that we can to help.
